You Are What You Eat? Kind Of..

The internal dialogue of the busy parent who is not content, but feels stuck:

“I hate feeling this way. I hate how Ilook. I've tried everything and it either doesn't work or I can't stick to it.This is just a part of life I guess.”

Settling follows.

While that last part is absolutely true formost people- nearly ¾ of the American adult population is obese (so it iscertainly part of life for most people), it doesn't have to be.

One big factor that is easily avoidable isthat within the American diet, around 60% of foods consumed are highlyprocessed.

Let's clarify for a moment- most people areoverweight and most people are consuming PRIMARILY highly processed foodswithin their diet.

So the first step toward better health issimply to swap in more whole foods for the junk we're currently eating.

If that was ALL we did.. If we didn't makeany more changes to our lifestyle, our health would improve dramatically fromthat one simple thing.

So today, we leave you with the homework ofdoing a little food audit. No, if you are not tracking your food, you don'tneed to start. Just use your eyeballs.

The fun foods in moderation are perfectlyfine. But most people don't know what moderation really is (we have a podcastepisode on that).

Start with simply aiming for 90% of whatyou eat to be from whole foods. Any whole foods. Fruits, veggies, legumes, meats, nuts, seeds, etc. Single-ingredient food items (that you can combinetogether yourself).

Commit to 90% for even a single week andyou'll notice big changes in how you feel, how you sleep, digestion, performance, cognitive function… All the things. :)
