The battle of the wearables: Oura Ring vs Garmin watch: which is better for busy moms?
Wearables are everywhere these days and there are so many to choose from. As someone who has always enjoyed tracking all of the health data, two that consistently are at the top of the list are the Oura Ring and the Garmin watch (specifically the Venu 3S). I’ve worn both for 7+ years now so let’s break down which one’s actually better and which one makes the most sense for the busy mom who’s wanting to dial in her health.
Let’s start with the Oura Ring. Here’s what I think it does REALLY well:
1. Sleep tracking is elite
Oura is widely considered one of the most accurate consumer wearables for sleep staging.
If your main goal is:
Improving sleep
Tracking readiness
Managing recovery postpartum
Hormone cycle tracking
…then Oura absolutely puts Garmin to shame.
2. It’s low effort
You don’t have to “use” it during workouts. It passively tracks.
For busy moms who don’t want another thing to charge, sync, or fiddle with I think this is a massive win too.
3. Readiness score
You wake up to one simple score that factors in all of your data to ultimately give you your “recovery” for the day. Compared to other devices I like how simplified, yet all inclusive this is.
Moving on to Garmin, I picked my top 3 things I prefer this device for:
1. Real training data
Garmin is built for performance.
You get:
Training load
VO2 max estimates
Heart rate zones (more accurate than Oura)
Recovery time suggestions
GPS routes
2. No subscription
You buy the device and you’re done. No monthly fees. Oura does require a membership.
3. Body Battery + recovery metrics
Garmin’s “Body Battery” gives a dynamic energy score based on:
HRV
Sleep
Stress
Activity
It’s more performance-oriented vs. lifestyle-oriented. The one thing I dislike here is that I personally don’t love wearing a watch to sleep. The ring feels non-existent with how light it is, the watch was uncomfortable.
As far as accuracy: Which is more accurate?
Sleep: Oura crushes here.
Workout tracking: Garmin wins this category.
Heart rate during activity: Garmin is more reliable (especially when paired with a heart rate monitor)
HRV tracking: Both are strong, but Garmin integrates it better into training metrics.
So all in all, I do personally LOVE and USE both, but…
if your goal is:
Looking good
Feeling energized
Training consistently
Building muscle
Managing recovery intentionally
Garmin gives more value if fitness is central.
if your goal is:
Hormone awareness
Sleep optimization
Recovery support
Simplicity
Less tech on your wrist
Oura may be the better fit!
